Ultimate DIY Bohol Adventure : Tarsier Conservation Area | Loboc Church | Baclayon Church

Whenever we travel to fulfill our yearly pact, the boyfriend and I make sure that we go on the most budget-friendly itinerary. For the most recent trip that we had, we spent almost a month of thinking of where to go, where to stay, what kind of food to eat and the likes. Cebu and Bohol are so rich with great places to visit and we want to at least have a glimpse of everything these provinces have to offer.

We arrived at around 11:30 AM in Bohol. We immediately checked in at Nisa Traveller’s Hotel and made use of the entire afternoon to tour around Loboc.

Our first destination was the Tarsier Conservation Area in Loboc, Bohol.

How to go there?
From Nisa Travellers Hotel, ride a tricycle going to Dao Integrated Bus Terminal. (Fare: Php30). (The bus leaves every hour). Ride a bus going to Carmen and get off in front of the Tarsier Conservation Area (Fare: Php40). You may just ask the driver to drop you off the place. It’s on the right side of the road.

The entrance fee at the conservation area is Php50.00 inclusive on a postcard. There are 13 tarsiers in care of the government. The oldest of which is 16 years old and the youngest is around 3 years old.

Did you know?
  • The name tarsier was taken from its extremely long tarsus bone. ts hind limbs are twice as long as its body!
  • Their third finger has the same length as their upper arm.
  • Tarsiers are able to rotate their head 180 to compensate for their immovable eyeballs!
  • Tarsiers are the only extant entirely carnivorous primates.
  • Young tarsiers are born furred and with open eyes. They are able to climb after a day of birth.
  • Tarsiers sing in high-pitched voice.

It was around 4PM when we left Tarsier Conservation Area. We crossed the street and waited for a bus going back to Tagbilaran. We were very lucky to catch a bus in less than 5 minutes. Buses are very rare in that area of Bohol! Since Loboc Church (The Church of San Pedro)  is just along the route of buses and jeeps, we decided to go directly and visit it.

How to go there?
From Loboc, ride a bus going to Tagbilaran. The fare going to Loboc Church is just Php20.00 and the ride takes around 20 minutes. Tell the conductor to drop you off at Centro. You will see the church on the left side and the bridge on the right on the road.

Noticed how weird the bridge is? According to some locals, a long time ago, some people believed that there were treasures buried under the church. One group initialized the construction of the bridge because it was their way of demolishing the church and get into the treasure. As expected, the people of Loboc went against the demolition if the church which led to the stoppage of the construction.

It took a while before we got a bus to ride. We decided to stop by Baclayon to see the famous Baclayon Church since it’s on the way and we still have enough time. The bus fare going to Baclayon is just PhP20.00 and the ride takes around 15 minutes.

How to go there?
From the centro of Loboc, ride a bust going to Tagbilaran. Get off in front of Baclayon Church. The bus fare is just Php20.00.

Aside from the museum, the great church architecture, and the fact that it is one of the oldest church in the Philippines, Baclayon Church (The Church of the Immaculate Conception) is famous because of the image on one of its facade. It was scary at first but as I talked to some of the locals, they said that this image is owned by one of their patron saints.

Though it was physically exhausting, the first day we had in Bohol was the sparkplug of our wants to explore the wonders of the province by ourselves. We didn't fail because on my next posts, I'll share with you where we went on our next days.
